Task Force on Clinical Information Technology

Background:

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) established a Steering Committee on Clinical Information Technology in 2002, in a merger of the Task Force on Medical Informatics and the Section on Computers and Other Technology.  Its mission is to recognize and address issues in clinical information technology impacting pediatricians and to promote communication and education so that pediatricians realize and understand how computerized information systems can benefit their patient's health and improve the effectiveness of care. The Steering Committee has asked that there be a liaison between the national group and the State Chapters. This Task Force Committee will establish a two-way connection between Council on Clinical Information Technology (COCIT) and the Georgia Chapter.

Georgia Task Force Committee Charge:

(1) To assist pediatricians in Georgia to move toward Electronic Health

Records (EHR) and other electronic/technologic advances.

(2) To adopt and follow the focus and mission of AAP.

(3) To provide resources to Georgia pediatricians and their staff

regarding the choices, selection and use of clinical information technology..

Focus areas are:

Electronic Health Records (EHR)

Telemedicine

E-prescribing

HIPAA/Security Rules

If you are interested in joining the Chapter’s Task Force on Clinical Information Technology, please contact Ed Gotlieb, MD, Chair at egotlie@emory.edu or Mike Chaney, staff at 404-881-5094 or mchaney@gaaap.org

Council on Clinical Information Technology (COCIT)

The Council on Clinical Information Technology needs resources, references and bibliography lists for toolkit on electric health records.  This will address the value of EHRs and help pediatricians with selection and implementation of EHRs.  Please send information to Kevin Johnson, MD, FAAP, COCIT Applications/Technology Chairperson at Kevin.Johnson@vanderbilt.edu.
