Learning Objectives
Childhood Obesity Seminar (Thursday a.m.) Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
¨ Define the scope of challenges facing pediatric obesity and identify effective approaches ¨ Identify best practices for the prevention, assessment and treatment of childhood obesity ¨ Discuss effective techniques in getting messages across to families to manage obesity in the pediatric office setting ¨ Identify diagnostic and treatment strategies for the child with Metabolic Syndrome ¨ Discuss overcoming barriers in the public policy arena ¨ Analyze research in the efficacy of bariatric surgery and compare outcomes of children and adolescents undergoing these procedures
Coding & Practice Management Seminar (Thursday a.m.) Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
¨ Identify strategies to manage expenses in today’s pediatric practice ¨ Demonstrate best practices in practice management ¨ Recognize the physician’s role in proper CPT and ICD-9 coding ¨ Understand proper E&M coding documentation and code selection ¨ Apply the correct procedure/diagnosis codes specific to common clinical cases using newly learned coding conventions
Behavioral Pediatrics Seminar (Thursday p.m.) Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
¨ Learn techniques in addressing ways to discuss behavioral diagnoses to enhance parent understanding and facilitate good physician-family communication. ¨ Discern the updated AAP recommendations for cardiac clearance for stimulant and other medications. ¨ Understand the place of Asperger's syndrome in the autistic spectrum and the differences in outcome from other forms of the spectrum. ¨ Gain a greater appreciation for modern psychopharmacologic medications and their place in a primary care setting. ¨ Utilize coding information for proper reimbursement for behavioral health visits and evaluations.
General Session (Friday & Saturday) Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: ¨ Recognize the symptoms to diagnosis of rheumatologic conditions ¨ Evaluate and manage fevers in infants & young children ¨ Understand the complexities of metabolic, hearing, developmental, and vision screening ¨ Implement innovative products and services in their pediatric practice ¨ Assess patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis ¨ Understand the issues in management of vaccine cost and supply issues ¨ Recognize proper treatment for hemangiomas in children ¨ Explain the etiology of autism and current research in the field to parents ¨ Formulate a treatment plan for patients diagnosed with bronchiolitis ¨ Evaluate common rashes in pediatrics ¨ Discuss the importance of Pay for Performance in pediatrics ¨ Describe the new AAP policy on lipid screening and hyperlipedemia ¨ Recognize the importance of the pediatrician’s role in environmental health issues for children ¨ Identify up-to-date information regarding school health, infectious disease, and Medicaid ¨ Analyze current trends in allergy/immunology cases in their practice
