In an effort to promote better nutrition for all of Georgia's children, the Georgia Chapter AAP developed the following committees.
WIC Advisory CommitteeGoal
: To maximize utilization of WIC nutrition services through a
collaborative partnership between primary care physicians and providers of
WIC services. The
Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Georgia WIC
Program have established a statewide physicians outreach campaign to
educate physicians and their office staff about WIC benefits/referral
process and help address infant and child feeding issues, which can be
supported by physicians and WIC staff to improve the nutrition status of
women, infants and children. The
WIC Advisory Committee supports education to the primary care physicians,
physician’s office staff and health department staff using 3 mediums of
communication:

Obesity Action NetworkThe Obesity Action Network (OAN) is a coalition of organizations and individuals seeking to stimulate effective efforts to address the problem of child obesity in Georgia. Activities of Network members include efforts to (1) improve assessment and monitoring and increase awareness of child obesity in Georgia, (2) stimulate preventive efforts through community-based programs and (3) improve treatment practices through development of treatment guidelines for use by health professionals. The Obesity Action Network was assembled by the Nutrition Section in cooperation with the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
