Georgia AAP Comments in Opposition to DHS “Public Charge” Proposal
Terri McFadden, MD submitted a letter to the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security in opposition to its so-called “Public Charge” proposal which was released in the fall for comments. The AAP opposes this proposal which will harm healthcare access for children who are legal US citizens. The Georgia AAP joined hundreds of others in opposition to this measure. In preparing our letter, we appreciated the wonderful help of Margaret M. Middleton, professor of Law at Georgia State University, whose research highlighted the particular harm that such a measure would have on Georgia’s children and rural economies.
