Welcome!

May 2024

May flowers bring spring showers as the saying goes, and we hope all our members are enjoying our beautiful Georgia spring. Looking back a bit, thanks to all the golfers who turned out on April 24 for the Jim Soapes Charity Golf Classic benefitting the Pediatric Foundation of Georgia, the Chapter’s philanthropic foundation. A good time was had by all, great weather and good fellowship. In the competition side, the Pediatric Emergency Physicians group won the Subspecialists Challenge by a single stroke of the CHOA cardiology group. And in the women’s contest, the Double Eagles continued their reign supreme. A special thanks to our golf committee for promoting the event and to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for their 2 Silver sponsorships. Also represented were teams from the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, Augusta and the Olson Children’s Hospital in Macon. We’re entering the final phase of our Endowment Campaign to raise $500,000 to for the foundation.  Please consider a gift to it and help us reach this wonderful milestone!  We only have $65,000 to go!

On an important Medicaid policy note, we recently sent out a Blast-E to members reminding them of the important change in Medicaid policy that was announced in February. Before this change, when the pediatrician encountered a care problem in the course of doing a well-visit, the highest Medicaid would allow the provider to bill was a level 2. We had advocated for a change in this policy for several months as unfair and thwarting the most appropriate care for the child—especially when behavioral or mental health issues were uncovered during a well-child visit.  The new policy change now permits the pediatrician to bill a level 3, 4 or 5 as the case may be.  It was made effective back to January 1, 2024. We appreciate the Dept. of Community Health making this important policy change.
